Kids say the darnedest things! The craziest sayings come out of their cute little mouths. That’s why I can hardly wait to make these adorable Chocolate Caramel Turkey Legs as a FUN and edible craft for Thanksgiving. It gives me a chance to sit down with my nieces and nephews and listen to all of their darling nonsense.

When there is a lull in the afternoon (somewhere between the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the next football game), I like to set up a table and invite the kids to make a craft with me. This year we will be making these silly Chocolate Caramel Turkey Legs. I saw the recipe in Taste of Home Magazine, and knew I just had to make them.

I adore making crafts with kids. It makes them feel very special to have that “one on one” time and it’s a great way to pass on my love for cooking and crafts. The fun thing about this activity is the littlest person can participate. They acquire dexterity skills by using their hands to mold something and then they get to dip (kids love to dip). Afterwards, they have a delicious treat for their kiddie table. But mark my words, I guarantee the adults will want to get in on this too!

You’ll definitely want to Gobble these Chocolate Caramel Turkey Legs Up! It’s made with 3 simple ingredients and takes only minutes to make. You use Honey Wheat Braided Pretzel twists (love the crunch), softened caramels (love the rich, smooth taste) and a sweet chocolaty dunk (need I say more?) to make this delightful dessert.  Can you guess which candy bar they taste like?  So, please set aside 20 minutes this Thanksgiving to spend with your little darlings and make this amusing and tasty treat!

INGREDIENTS

  • 40 caramels
  • 20 honey wheat braided pretzel twists
  • 3 oz melted chocolate (I use dipping chocolate)
  • Chopped nuts or sprinkles, if desired

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Microwave the unwrapped caramels on high just until softened, only about 10-15 seconds. It should only be warm to the touch (be careful).
  2. Using your hands, mold two softened caramels around the lower half of each braided pretzel to resemble a turkey leg.
